Hello Fellow Doodlers
Can you remember the last time someone asked you to consider something that didn’t seem all that important to you? It can only take up so much of your brain space if you aren’t intrinsically motivated to give it much thought.
I think that is often the problem when it comes to learning handwriting for a lot of kids. At the age they are required to learn it for school success, their minds are playful and imaginative, so learning to form letters, space words and sit them on the line doesn’t feel important or interesting.
The Doodles Help Handwriting activity books aim to get kids to consider the form of the letter or the line to adhere to. How? With occupational therapist designed engaging doodles that fit into their main occupation, play! Boring rote exercises don’t engage the brain in this way, and for that reason the skill acquisition isn’t optimal.
The underlying goal with all my books is to build visual motor integration through spatial reasoning, motor coordination and getting kids into a state of flow, where time and effort aren’t the main focus and working on handwriting is fun and inspiring.
